Raiders have stolen £8,000 worth of designer glasses after targeting a Shipley opticians twice within two days.

And the owner of Shipley's Dolland & Aitchison shop believes the thieves will try to sell the frames on at pubs or car boot sales.

Burglars smashed their way into the shop on Kirkgate on Tuesday night before making off with about 30 frames, valued at £4,500.

And the same gang is thought to be responsible for a second break-in at the shop between Wednesday evening and the early hours of yesterday, when a further £3,500 worth of frames - valued at up to £175 each - were taken.

Owner Steve Mitchell said the burglars had only taken the higher value Armani, Lozza, French Connection, Metropolitain, Timberland and Police frames.

He said: "They were very selective and knew exactly what they were after - it must have been the same gang both times.

"They only took the designer frames and even left the lower value designs.

"Unless they've been stolen to order I'm sure they'll be looking to sell them on in pubs or at car boot sales.

"But people should beware of buying them because they're only frames with clear glass in.

"Without a receipt they'll find it extremely difficult to get them made up into glasses at an opticians.''

Mr Mitchell said he was now planning to install security shutters to thwart the burglars.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said detectives were investigating the break-ins and called for anyone with any information to call Keighley police on (01535) 617059.
