People from across Bradford are being encouraged to put their best foot forward to raise money for cancer research.

Bradford Rotary Club has organised a 21-mile walk to give a boost to the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Can... Cancer Research Appeal.

Rotary club committee member Phillip Sharp said: "We hold a walk every two years which always raises money for charity.

"This year we chose Bradford Can... because one of our members, David Pollard, is on the committee of the charity. We try to raise money which will help the area and the Bradford community, with us being the Bradford Rotary Club."

Walkers meet at Bolton Abbey at 7am and are taken by bus to the starting point in Buckden.

Then, following the path of the River Wharfe, they make their way back the 21 miles to Bolton Abbey.

There are four check points along the way where walkers can stop if they wish to. The first is four miles into the walk at Kettlewell. The next is after about 11 miles at Grassington, the third is at Burnsall, about 14 miles into the walk, and the fourth is Bolton Abbey.

Mr Sharp said: "Over the years very few people have dropped out but we arrange transport from each of the check points back to Bolton Abbey if that is as far as people want to go.

"The route mostly follows the Dales Way path and it is a very pleasant walk. We usually get about 200 to 250 people walking and have raised as much as £9,000. It has always been very well supported."

Anyone who wants to take part in the walk should contact the Bradford Can... appeal office on (01274) 235482 or Mr Sharp at Sharp's Flooring on (01274) 724265 for a registration form.

The closing date is June 9 and the entry fee is £9.50 per walker.
