THE Leeds and District Ladies' Pairs Competition takes place on Sunday, June 30. Greenbottom and Yeadon Park are the local venues for the preliminary rounds.

Local bowlers taking part are: B Chaffer and J Crosland (Horsforth Woodside), who play at Greenbottom, J Lang and C Coutts (Burley-in-Wharfedale) and D Wise and M Cooper (Tarnfield), who play at Armley Park, E Newbould and J Dews (Burley-in-Wharfedale), who play at Yeadon Park, and B Cromwell and S Knowles (Burley-in-Wharfedale), B Sutcliffe and L Malcolm, A Sharp and C Spurr (Greenbottom), who play at New Farnley. All games start at 11am. One pair from each location go through to the finals day later in the season.

Wood Cup

The Yorkshire County Parks Wood Cup team competition continues on Friday, June 28, when the second round takes place. Local teams involved are Yeadon Park B, who play Crossroads B, Royd House who play Peel Park B, Tarnfield who play Bradford Moor, Baildon B who play Shipley Club C and Guiseley B who play Bowling Park. All games start at 6.45pm.

The Yorkshire Parks Pairs Merit Competition was held on Sunday using four greens for the preliminary rounds to accommodate the 32 entries. Father and son combination T and R Hargreaves (Crossroads) were the trophy winners beating P Wilson (Eccleshill) and C Goodhall (Greengates) 21-13 in the final. Mr D Benson (Rufford) was the referee and Mr M Carter, Yorkshire Parks president, presented the trophies.

In the Henry Taylor Cup third round, also on Saturday, Rufford play Hemsworth Welfare at Crosland Moor.

Team competitions

The Airedale Wharfedale programme of team cup competitions continues on Sunday with the finals of the Salts Trophy, the Jennings Crackles and the Dobson Challenge Shield. Pateley Bridge play Dacre Banks in the Salts Trophy at Myrtle Park.

Oxenhope play Myrtle Park in the Jennings Crackles at Rufford at a starting time in the afternoon determined by the completion of the earlier final. Greenbottom B play the winners of a semi-final game between Horsforth Conservative and Knaresborough Thistle at 11am in the Dobson Challenge Shield.

On Tuesday, July 2, the League Cup Competition will conclude when Wharfemeadows B play Greenbottom B in the final at Burley-in-Wharfedale.
