Hawksworth Cricket Club celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a match between Past and Present sides at Guiseley Cricket Club on Sunday.
The match, played in glorious conditions, was followed by a buffet at which past and present members mingled to reminisce. Some had travelled many miles to be at the event and many had not seen each other for around 20 years.
Although many of the Past side had long since packed up their cricket gear they proved they had not lost their touch.
They dismissed the Present X1, which plays in the Dales Council League, for 129. Tony O'Connor caused the early damage despite not having played for eight years. He was on the spot straight away bowling opener Peter Barker and then grabbing the wickets of Chris North and Ray Johnson to finish with 3-19. Tony Townsend hit 42 before being stumped by his old adversary Tony Lee.
The Past X1 were always in control and despite losing the wicket of opener Nigel Dibb for 16 David Hardaker held things together with an unbeaten 34. The surprise packet however was Brian Gill who had not picked up a bat for 20 years but managed to make 45 and earn the Man-of-the-Match award.
Bernard Thornton joined Hardaker to make 18 no and see the side to a comfortable win.
The umpires were Hawksworth CC President and founder member Keith Dibb and former Hawksworth player Steve Hobson.
After the match the players and umpires were presented with special commemorative medals provided by the Village Hotel and Leisure Club in Headingley.
The medals were presented by The Village's Deputy Manager Simon Rawstron, Revenue Manager Stuart Ward and Sales Manager Debbie Steele.
The match ball was sponsored by PC Sports. A special Jubilee cake made by Margaret Dibb was cut and distributed. Margaret prepared the buffet along with her daughter Wendy and Rachel, Kate and Beth O'Connor.
