A young wordsmith at Cowling Community Primary School is flying high after becoming the first to receive of a new annual award.
Year Six pupil Luke McCabe, 11, is the first winner of the Ivy Smith Award for Poetry.
He received the honour in recognition of his "outstanding work in poetry" throughout his years at the school.
The award has been set up in memory of former cook Ivy Smith, who worked at the primary school for 20 years and died last year.
Head teacher Kath Pick said: "Ivy had a lifelong love of poetry and her family thought this award would be a fitting memorial to her at school
"We discussed who should receive the award with members of staff, and those who taught Luke agreed that he had consistently produced some outstanding poetry all through his time at the school."
Luke's poem called The Albatross is featured below:

I heard the air as it made a swift glide,
I saw the miniature biplane,
I saw its aerodynamic feature,
I heard its penetrating shriek,
I saw its cotton tail,
I saw the piercing beak wrench away a fish,
I saw it swoop over a tremendous cliff,
I heard its wings swaying in the squall,
I saw it curl and coil,
I saw...
Luke is pictured, left, with the shield.
