Haworth failed to repeat last year's success in the Wynn Cup whenthey slipped to a 74-run defeat at barrowford.
Last year's beaten finalists saw the home side set a target of 173 with Damian Rowell the p8ck of the bowlers, taking 3-43. The Bronte side's reply fell 74 runs short with John Hargreaves claiming 5-20 and David Hartley 3-19.
That win set up a semi-final with Skipton CI who beat Ingrow St John's at Sandylands. On a slow, low surface the Keighley side struggled to 103-7. Colin Bottomley top scored with 25 as Shaun Williamson took 3-16 in ten overs. Zufar Iqbal and Nick Williamson chipped in with two wickets each and John Drake had the excellent figures of 0-16 off his twelve overs.
The home side coped better with the surface, in particularly Iqbal who crashed 73 not out to take his side through to the next round by seven wickets.
Thornton raced to 98-2 at Haworth WE then slumped to 107-5. David Holt and skipper Brian Laycock steadied the ship.
When Laycock went for 14 followed by Mark Procter new man Mark Paxton joined Holt and for the last nine overs they crashed the ball all over the ground to put on 60 runs and take the score to 222-7.
Openers Simon Bailey (38) and Kevin Pollard (36) had earlier put on 80 for the first wicket. Dan Peel bowling well to take 5-51 in twelve overs.
The daunting target needed a good start but West End lost wickets regularly and nobody was able to play the big innings required. They were dismissed for 62 in just 25 overs. Mark Paxton claiming 4-23 off nine overs. The game ended abruptly as Richard Craddock knocked the last three batters over in successive balls.
League leaders Embsay didn't have things all their own way at Airedale where the home side put on 58 for the first wicket.
Once the breakthrough had been made they struggled to 119. Matthew Cox made 37, his father, Trevor, 36 as Richard Phillipson took 3-21 off twelve overs and Stephen Speak finished with 3-2 in 25 balls.
Duncan Bullough top scored with 26 as the Shires Lane teamwon by five wickets. Giles Wilmore was the best bowler with 2-21 off ten overs.
The semi finals are Barrowford v Skipton CI, Thornton v Embsay and are to be played on Sunday July 14, not the 21st as shown in the handbook. Grounds will be announced later.
