DOUGIE LAMPKIN produced a superb second-day performance in France to keep his World Title race on track.
The champion slipped from top spot on the first day of competition as Spanish Rider Marc Colomer won the opening day at Ancelle at the foot of the French Alps.
He dropped 11 marks on Saturday's round, one behind the Spanish rider.
He didn't make the best of starts on Sunday when he failed the fourth section. the crash left him injured and for a time there was some doubt over whether he could continue.
But the gritty rider climbed back on his Montesa machine, and although he was shadowed by the event doctor through the remaining hazards he produced an awesome performance to drop just five further points and clinch victory.
After the trial Dougie said: "I really thought I had blown it when I crashed off the back of the step in section four on the last lap. Somehow I managed to get it back together and hang on to the end. Although I was in a little pain it felt good to be back on top of the podium again."
Lampkin is leading the World Championship with 187 points, 30 ahead of his nearest rival, Honda rider Takahisa Fujinami (157) with Elbert Cabestany of Spain in third place on 150 and his countryman Adam Raga in fourth spot with 124 points.
The next event is Round Six of the World Championship to be held on July 6-7 in Valmalenco, Italy.
