Nearly three thousand senior school pupils in Bradford are now taking end of school exams - but when they leave next month, almost half will have no job to go to. That was the shock figure revealed today by the city's area careers officer, Mr Ian Charlesworth, in an interview with the Telegraph & Argus. In Bradford central and south, where 2,300 will be quitting school life, 1,150 have little prospect of an early career opportunity.

Two fires in Bradford are believed to have been caused by cigarette ends. One was behind Crown Wallpapers Ltd, Manchester Road, where rubbish was ignited in a lift well. The other was at 12, Jervaulx Crescent, Westgate, where slight damage was caused to an armchair.
