A former Lord Mayor of Bradford has died after a short illness, aged 81.
Veteran councillor Danny Coughlin and his wife Iris were Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress in 1981-82 and raised £180,000 for their charity, War on Cancer.
Mrs Coughlin, 79, who worked tirelessly for the charity and was recognised by the Queen for her efforts, died from a blood clot on her lung in May last year.
Mr Coughlin, who served on the Council for 28 years, was a Labour leader in the 1980s and served on numerous committees.
But he resigned from the Labour party after being a member for more than 30 years when he lost his seat in 1991.
While in his 70s he studied at Bowling Community College and achieved top grades in GCSE passes.
His brother Laurie and wife Joan were also Lord and Lady Mayoress from 1987-88.
Today deputy leader of the Labour group Councillor Barry Thorne said: "He served the party for many years and was a Labour stalwart until recent years.
"I knew him very well when he was group leader.
"I am very sorry to hear about this."
