June was the worst month on record for city-centre car thefts in Bradford, the police revealed today. More than 150 thefts were reported, 50 per cent more than in the previous month, and many more vehicles are thought to have been taken but not reported stolen. The vehicles were taken from car parks and streets, a police spokesman said. Most of them were taken by joyriders who later abandoned them, but some are thought to have been broken down and sold for scrap.

Nine hundred and five people attended the lido at Lister Park, Bradford, yesterday, compared with 790 the previous day. The highest attendance this year was over 4,000 during a weekend.
