First customer in the queue for Busby's Bradford, sale - a woman who arrived at 3am - knew exactly what she wanted, and got it, when the store opened just before 9am. She left happily with a £2 duster coat, and a 5s. 11d. jumper. Stylish dresses at 25s, stroller coats at £3 and costumes at £3 were the target for many customers, but children's wear probably claimed the bigger queue at the start. By 9.45 both departments were packed, and by 10.30 about 4,000 had been gradually admitted to the store.
