Generous staff at a Bradford restaurant have donated a week's tips to the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Can...Cancer Research Appeal.

The workers from Nawaab, Manor Row, decided to help out after the new general manager of the restaurant read about the appeal in the T&A.

Mohammed Ejaz said he thought it was very important for the curry house chain to support good causes, particularly this year as they celebrate their 15th anniversary.

He said the staff had agreed to give their tips for an entire week, which totalled about £250, for the appeal.

Mr Ejaz said he was keen to raise money for the Bradford Can...Appeal and several other events were in the pipeline, including special offers in the restaurant.

He is hoping to raise £25,000 by Christmas towards the £1million appeal to boost cancer research in Bradford.

The money will go to the Cancer Research Unit at Bradford University, which is known throughout the world for its groundbreaking work, and to fund clinical trials of drugs at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Once the £1 million target is reached, it will unlock another £5 million from Cancer Research UK.

Mr Ejaz said it was especially appropriate for them to help because of it being their 15th year in business.

"I thought 'we are planning to celebrate our 15th anniversary and we have achieved so much out of this city'," he said.

"This is a very big appeal that's going on and a good time to support good causes."

The company's first restaurant was the one in Bradford and now there are ten Nawaabs, with the 11th - a 900-seat restaurant in Manchester - due to open later in the year.

Mr Ejaz has recently taken over as general manager of the Bradford restaurant, having been manager at the Huddersfield branch for four years.

Tish Burton, appeal manager, said: "The Nawaab staff have been extremely generous in giving up their tips for a whole week. Their contribution to the Bradford Can...Appeal is greatly appreciated."
