City will open the new campaign on a Sunday after their TV clash with Wolves was put back 24 hours.

Dave Jones's promotion favourites will now visit Valley Parade on Sunday, August 11 for a 4.30pm kick-off.

The game was switched after consultation with the police but will still be broadcast on Sky, earning City around £60,000.

The Saturday 5.35pm time slot originally earmarked for the game will now be taken up by Walsall and Ipswich.

City have arranged a closed-doors friendly against Halifax Town to fill the void left by their axed tour of Scotland.

They were due to travel north of the border today for matches against Ayr United and Raith. But the trip was shelved by the administrators to cut costs, leaving City without a friendly until they go to Nicky Law's old club Chesterfield on July 23.

But they have hastily arranged a match against their Conference neighbours on Tuesday.

Boss Law said: "It will probably be over three 30-minute periods. But we're still trying to sort out where we'll play.

"It's a private game and will give the lads the chance to build up a bit of match practice."

City will play four first-team friendlies with visits to Chesterfield, Hartlepool and Hull followed by a mouth-watering clash with Middlesbrough at Valley Parade six days before the visit of Wolves.
