Michael Withers' father Mark - his first coach - doesn't reckon much to Great Britain's chances in tomorrow's Test match against Australia in Sydney.

"I was speaking to my dad yesterday and he reckons Great Britain will be lucky to get within 20 points," admitted the former Balmain Tigers player, who joined Bradford Bulls in 1999.

Withers, who also feels the Kangaroos will be victorious, says there is controversy about the selection of both the Kangaroos and the Lions 17s.

"It is this positional thing that I don't agree with in the Great Britain selection," said the 1999 and 2001 Bulls' Player of the Season.

"They are just playing people out of position to fill a gap, and it makes it more difficult for people to get in the game that way.

"Paul Wellens is in the centre for example, and Lee Gilmour has gone all the way there without getting a game, and Paul King too.

"And the Australian team selection has certainly caused a bit of controversy.

"Jason Stevens was selected on the bench when he hasn't played for so long, and also the choice of Willie Mason on the bench was a talking point.

"But when you consider the calibre of people they have left out then you know they are still a strong team."

Withers, who has scored a remarkable 79 tries for the Bulls in 93 appearances, added: "However, it should be a good game.

"I was speaking to Jamie Peacock yesterday morning too and the British squad are all confident.

"Keiron Cunningham is a good player for Great Britain. Hopefully he can last the whole game because he hasn't played a full match for a few weeks, and came off injured again last week."

Withers qualifies for Britain through his Irish grandparents and made himself available for the three-match Ashes Series last November, which Britain lost 2-1.

However, he was so dischuffed about not being selected for any of the Tests that he withdrew his availability during the

winter.
