Bradford's city-centre footbridge, linking the £16 million Transport Interchange and Norfolk Gardens, became operational today. A good percentage of the people using the bridge this morning were children on their way to school. For others it was a bridge too far. The flow of pedestrians across busy Hall Ings continued in three places - the two crossings and the lane leading to the car park.

Shipley Council's Highways Committee and the police are to urge pedestrian crossings and guard rails at Fox Corner in the centre of Shipley. They are also applying for non-controlled pedestrian crossings across Bradford Road and Valley Road at the junctions with Shipley Fields Road and across Leeds Road at the junction with West Royd Road.
