THE Airedale and Wharfedale League reached the final of the Costcutter Yorkshire Leagues' Knock-Out Competition when they defeated The Huddersfield League in Sunday's semi-final.
They will meet the Yorkshire League in the final at Dunnington CC on Sunday, August 18. It will be the fourth time these two sides have met in the final.
Although it is 2-1 on wins to the Yorkshire League at present one of those wins was on the flip of a coin when bad weather affected the 1999 final.
In the semi-final at Bilton Airedale and Wharfedale batted first and made a useful 188 with Adel's David Standring coming in at number five to hit the top score of 74. This came off 64 balls. His Adel colleague Ian Jones had opened the innings with a half-century.
The score should have been much higher as with 13 overs to go Airedale and Wharfedale had reached 154-4 but some poor batting saw them lose the initiative.
As Huddersfield were dismissed for 148 in reply Burley's Nick Brook took 3-28 and Tim Gray 3-35.
Ryan Robinson, who made 150 in the Huddersfield League the previous day, held his side together with an innings of 60 before falling to Barry Singleton (North Leeds) who recovered from conceding 17 runs in his first over to take 1-11 in his next nine overs.
