ON a beautiful day for cricket, Burley Under-9s took part in a tournament hosted by North Leeds CC. With six teams taking part there was a lot of cricket to be played, and Burley concentrated hard to come out of the competition as runners-up with four games won out of five played.
The opening match in fact proved to be the vital game, with Burley losing by only four runs to the eventual tournament winners Otley.
Captain James Snook had serious bad luck with the toss, not winning a single call during the afternoon, and as a result Burley batted first for the majority of their matches. James gave a good all-round captain's performance taking three for ten in five overs, and contributing 15 with the bat, while Alex Hall took three for 24 and put on 22 with the bat.
Caitlin Williams gave a terrific bowling performance in conceding only six runs - and claiming a wicket - in her five overs. Meanwhile Beth Cooper scored an outstanding 41 runs, losing her wicket only once.
James Harrison opened the batting without losing his wicket, while Jack Darwin, Oliver Gillatt Jones and Robbie Oldham kept their opponents score down with some tight bowling.
