Jan Heylen, a protg of Bradford's Tim Sugden Motorsport and already touted as a future Formula 1 prospect, goes into the tenth and 11th rounds of the UK's national Formula Ford Zetec Championship at Croft this weekend confident of victory.
In the last meeting, at Mondello Park in Ireland, he scored a win and a second place, and is catching early-season pacesetter Westley Barber at the head of the table.
"Things have come together nicely now", said Heylen. "We're quick everywhere and are confident of more victories. It would be great to get one at the home circuit for Tim Sugden, who put his faith in me when I was a complete novice."
This weekend's races, as with all the rounds, supports the UK's premier motor sport series, the British Touring Car Championship.
Heylen has a prized seat with the Duckhams-backed works Van Diemen team, the most successful manufacturer ever seen in the formula.
The UK's hugely competitive Formula Ford series is the proving ground for serious motor racing careers, and world champions Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill all competed in Formula Ford, as did David Coulthard, Eddie Irvine and Jenson Button.
