Rawdon race ace Rob Griffiths - currently holding eighth place overall in the IGC Caterham Superlight Challenge - is set to tackle one of the quickest tracks in the country, the new Rockingham Motor Speed-way in Northampton-shire, a week on Sunday in pursuit of further championship points.
Griffiths, 29, has enjoyed an increasingly competitive season in his 3G Promosport-backed car, which he prepares himself.
Twice this year he has finished inside the top ten, and he has scored valuable points in every race.
Griffiths started racing in 1990 and, after several seasons racing classic MGs, switched to the Superlight Challenge in 2000.
After five of the ten rounds it is Scots flyer Barry Horne who leads the way. With three race victories under his belt already, 24-year-old Horne enjoys a nine-point lead over Essex driver John Gladman, with Superlight newcomer Keith Robinson (Camberley) in third position.
Horne, John Gladman, Robinson and Phil Gladman will all be in action at Rockingham, Britain's newest race track.
Among the other drivers expected in Northamptonshire is Charlie Butler-Henderson, brother of Fifth Gear TV presenter Vicki, who is making his return to the championship after two months on the sidelines following a high-speed accident at Thruxton.
Current standings: 1 Barry Horne (Dunfermline) 96 points, 2 John Gladman (Benfleet) 87, 3 Keith Robinson (Camberley) 74, 4 Phil Gladman (Chiswick) 72, 5 Jason Sutherland (Caterham) 58, 6 Matt Kelly (Northampton) 54, 7 Marcello Romano (London) 50, 8 Rob Griffiths (Leeds) 44, 9 Luc Paillard (Sevenoaks) 40, 10 Paul Kite (Wilmington) 40.
