Clothing firm Initial Garment Manufacturing has signed a deal with St John Ambulance.

The firm, which was established in Bradford almost 70 years ago, is set to supply the first aid charity with one and two-piece uniforms.

The outfits, which were recently unveiled at an exhibition, have been specially designed in conjunction with the charity. They are made of Comfortec - an easy-care 50 per cent polyester, 50 per cent cotton mix - and designed to be comfortable and protect against blood contamination.

Initial is making them in black or green and they will be worn by St John Ambulance workers across England and Wales.

Sales of the suits, which are available from St John Suppliers, will also help the charity raise cash for its activities.

Stuart Cross, director and general manager for Initial, said: "With our strong presence in the emergency services sector we are ideally placed to supply the volume and quality of garments needed.

"Our production capability, stockholding and wearer management facilities ensure the right uniform is available on time, every time."

Initial Garment Manufact-uring, based on Legrams Lane, signed a £500,000 deal at the beginning of the year to supply all 1,000 North East ambulance service members with uniforms.

It also recently signed a huge deal to supply 900 P&O Trans European uniforms which are flame retardant, have anti-static properties and are coated with Teflon to reduce staining.
