Pupils at Cullingworth Primary School are saying a fond farewell to four teachers who are leaving this summer.

Youngsters will be saying thank you and goodbye to Mary Hargreaves, Maureen Airey, Gill Griffiths and Sue Attwood.

Mary, 59, is retiring this year after teaching for 31 years at the school.

Originally from Wilsden and now living in Cullingworth, she began teaching at Mornington Road School, in Bingley, in 1964.

She joined the Cullingworth school in 1971 and since then has sat as a member of the management team and the management of behaviour team. Last month she led the school's Rose Queen procession, a tradition she began with fellow teachers in the 70s.

Mary, who is married and has three children and five grandchildren, jokes that she is going to have a gap year out because she's never had the chance to have one before.

Maureen Airey, 58, from Silsden, is retiring after 19 years of service at the school.

She originally taught in her home village of Wilsden before moving to Cullingworth in 1983.

During her time at the school Maureen, who has two children and one grandchild, has taught special needs groups, and for the last five years has worked part-time and shared a class.

Maureen says she is looking forward to taking up golf and walking.

Gill Griffiths is leaving the school after 15 years to work as a supply teacher in primary schools in the Keighley and North Yorkshire area.

She is pursuing the change so that she can have a more flexible working pattern.

Sue Attwood, who joined the school on a temporary contract last year, is taking up a part-time teaching post at Oxenhope Primary School.
