Keighley - Both Scratch and 8-15 teams had 6-2 wins on Friday. The Scratch team of A Utley, M Chapman, I Houldsworth and S Murray achieved a great result away at Ghyll. On home turf the 8-15 team played The Manor. S Smith, S Tabel and L Marklew all recorded good wins, Leigh Marklew continuing his unbeaten record.
On Saturday the whole of the club was involved in playing for the Keighley Club Trophy. Teams of three players represented their sections with all three Stableford scores to count. The overall winners, representing the 8-15 section, were Captain M Cooper, N Cowan and S Shackleton, who scored a total of 111 points. The 0-7 section team of A Utley, R Newton and M Clarkson were only one point behind. The best ladies team of P Luccock, L Logan and C Chapman scored 105 points, the best Rabbits team, A Smith, M Webb and J Fielding had 103 points, and the best Juniors, J Marshall, A Houldsworth and J Marshall scored 100 points.
The Juniors played for the Lady Butterfield Trophy on Sunday, when Adam Worthington (90-24-66) recorded his second win in a row.
On Sunday Andy Utley came second in the Bradford Amateur Strokeplay competition at Shipley Golf Club. He scored 71 in both rounds, giving him a total of 142. Junior Captain Joe Marshall missed the cut by just one shot with a splendid second round of 70.
On the same day the 8-15 team came fifth in the 1st Division Championships at Skipton Golf Club.
The inaugural Mixed Trip organised by Captain Mike Cooper and his wife Janet was held at De Vere Carden Park, Cheshire, on Sunday and Monday. The format of Mixed Canadian Foursomes on the Cheshire course on Sunday followed by individual Stableford rounds on the Jack Nicklaus course on Monday was very successful, especially as the weather was hot and sunny.
The Ladies played LGU Medal 7, the Annual Medal and the Senior Vets on Tuesday. In the medal competition, the Silver Division winner was Lady Captain Elaine Pearson(79-5-74) and the runner-up was Dorothy Dale (91-16-75). In the Bronze Division the winner was Dorothy Pickard (112-40-72) and the runner-up was Pat Rawnsley (97-24-73). The Annual Medal, open to all medal winners from last season, was won by Elaine Pearson and the Senior Vets was won by Dorothy Dale.
