Disgusted athletics fan Brenda Weatherill says Commonwealth Games ticket bosses should face the high jump after shattering her dream of attending the event.
Mrs Weatherill, pictured, and her husband Richard were delighted when they secured two tickets, for only £5 each, to watch a track and field session at the new City of Manchester Stadium.
Now two months later and with the start of the games less than a fortnight away, the Bingley couple have been told their tickets are invalid as the session on July 29 - to have featured heats for the discus, high jump, sprint hurdles, pole vault and long jump - has been cancelled.
A letter from Manchester 2002 Ltd, the organisation running the games, said the couple's money would be refunded and they could apply to buy a ticket for another track and field session.
But Mrs Weatherill said when she finally got through to the ticket office, after several hours of trying in a queuing system, she was told all track and field sessions were sold out.
She said: "We are incensed they didn't give us more notice or even have the courtesy, once they knew it was going to be cancelled, to hold back enough tickets to ensure people could go to an alternative athletics session."
A Commonwealth Games spokesman said: "We couldn't have predicted it would be cancelled so we couldn't have held back tickets.''
