More than 400 people attended the United Cathedral Service in Bradford which marked the beginning of this year's Captive Nations Week. Despite heavy rain, representatives of the Captive Nations in Bradford - Byelorussia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and the Ukraine - joined the procession to the war memorial after the service for a wreath laying ceremony.

Net cost to Bradford Corporation of the salary award to local government officers, announced yesterday, will be about £17,700 a year, said the City Treasurer ( Mr John Ruscoe) last night.For all deprtments of the Corporation, the cost would be about £25,000, but from this has to be deducted £4,000 for the trading departments, and £3,300 chargeable against grants.
