CHILDREN and staff of a Guiseley school have gathered to say a sad farewell to one of their teachers.
Tranmere Park Primary School Deputy headteacher, Ray Beadle, started teaching in 1967 at Horsforth Featherbank Juniors and has spent all his working life in Wharfedale schools.
From Horsforth he moved to Weston Lane Juniors - now Thomas Chippendale Primary - and then to All Saints, Otley.
He moved to Tranmere Park in 1975.
As well as teaching, Mr Beadle is a keen sportsman and has run football, cross country, cricket and athletics clubs at the school.
He has also arranged many residential holidays in the Lake District and Shropshire.
Now Mr Beadle, a member of the Bridge Church, Otley, plans to start his retirement by walking the 76 miles of the Inn Way to raise money for the Marie Curie Fund. He has already raised £600 from the school.
