A mugger who was chased by two passers-by after he robbed a woman has been jailed for 40 months.
A judge yesterday praised the actions of Nathan and Glynn Featherstone after they pursued purse-snatcher Andrew Steberis in a van and held onto him until police arrived on the scene.
Judge Roger Scott said the men should each receive a reward of £250 from public funds and added: "If they had not done that, it would have been very difficult for this defendant to be brought to book."
Steberis, 22, of School Lane, Dewsbury Moor, was chased by the men after they saw him struggling with a 59-year-old woman in the Westgate Road area of Heckmondwike.
Prosecutor Stephen Uttley said the victim, who suffered from mental illness, was walking along when Steberis initially tried to grab the bag she was carrying over her shoulder, but then snatched her purse containing just £4.
Bradford Crown Court heard Steberis, who admitted robbery, was under the influence of drugs and was already subject to a drug treatment and testing order at the time.
