Ilkley Grammar School's Under-13 girls' cricket squad have been invited to play an exhibition match at Durham CCC's state-of-the-art ground in Chester-le-Street. They will demonstrate their skills during the interval of the England v India women's international match tomorrow, Friday.
The girls will achieve a remarkable treble at this event by playing on their third county ground of the season. They put on another exhibition match at Headingley in April and also entered the Yorkshire Girls' and Women's Championships at Scarborough in June.
Interest in cricket is growing steadily at Ilkley GS, with all six feeder primary schools receiving coaching through the School Sport Co-ordinator programme. A primary schools' tournament for boys and girls is being held at Olicanian CC in July as a forerunner to the formation of a league in 2003.
The girls who will travel to Durham are Sarah Baines, Branwen Bryan, Emma Cobbold, Amy Colclough, Hannah Drakard, Abigail Earle, Melissa Hall, Alice Johnson, Lauren Owens, Stefanie Peel, Emma Parrish and Christina Shiels.
