City will travel to Telford United tomorrow for a hastily-drawn up pre-season friendly.

The Conference side contacted the Bantams yesterday afternoon after scheduled opponents Mansfield pulled out with injuries.

City wanted to fit in another game before Tuesday's trip to Chesterfield and jumped at the chance of playing at the Bucks Head Stadium (3pm).

"We'll be sending a first-team squad," said Nicky Law. "It will probably be like the Halifax game last week with different sides for each half."

Ashley Ward will not be risked as he continues to build up fitness after his knee operation in May. He is being rested until the Saltergate visit.

Defender Lewis Emanuel has recovered from illness and was back in training

yesterday.

Telford, who finished mid-table last season, could sign former Republic of Ireland striker David Kelly in time to play. A club spokesman said: "Mansfield cried off because they have picked up four or five injuries already.

"They could only send a virtual youth team, which is what Aston Villa did last year, and nobody was keen on that."

l City youth team beat Thackley 5-0 in a friendly last night, with goals from Craig Bentham, Tom Penfold, Liam Flynn, Danny Forrest and an own goal.
