Crowds turned out in force on Sunday for the annual Manorlands garden party.

A huge range of activities was staged in the grounds of the Oxenhope Sue Ryder Care home.

Around £13,500 was raised on the day, but with advertising and sponsorship revenue the final figure is expected to be about £21,888.

Organisers said they were delighted with the response.

Fundraiser Chris Bown said: "The amount raised is £2,000 up on last year, which is absolutely fantastic.

"It was a superb day and we are extremely grateful to everyone who helped out or gave their support in any way. A lot of volunteers work very hard to ensure the event is a success - it is a huge effort - and that devotion is appreciated."

The party was opened by Yorkshire Television presenter Gaynor Barnes, and among the VIP guests were the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress Councillor Richard and Mrs Elizabeth Wightman.

The entertainment line-up included the Yorkshire Building Society Junior Brass Band, Oakworth Morris Dancers, Keighley Comets majorettes, and the Gordon Wilson School of Dancing.

Among other attractions were a karate display, children's train rides courtesy of Bradford Model Engineering Society, face painting, Honda Goldwing rides by Colin Appleyard, a coconut shy, beat the goalie with the Boltmakers Arms football club, reflexology, vintage cars, a balloon race and game with Burgess Ford, and a bouncy castle.

There were also over 40 stalls - including a raffle, linens, arts and crafts, toys, tombolas, books, bottles, clothes, rugs and throws, stationery, jewellery, cakes and home produce - plus a barbecue, ice cream stall and refreshments.

Compere for the day was Mike Walton, Keighley's Town Crier and a Lions Club member.
