Yorkshire Co-operatives Ltd invited people to come shopping for a job at a careers conference held at Bradford City football ground, as part of its on-going recruitment drive in the Keighley area.
The society's 164 outlets, which includes food shops, department stores, travel shops, motor dealerships and funeral homes, already make Yorkshire Co-operatives one of Yorkshire's largest employers.
Now it wants to send the message to job-seekers that Yorkshire Co-operatives Ltd can offer them excellent management opportunities.
The informal approach has been adopted to attract men and women, from school-leavers to post-family returners, who might not realise the potential for career development that Yorkshire Co-operatives can offer.
Stewart Cummings, Yorkshire Co-operatives' training manager, said: "The society currently employs over 4,200 people right across Yorkshire and into Humberside and Lancashire, and with a turnover of £500 million we can offer fantastic opportunities for career development, as well as excellent staff incentives.
"We had a very positive response from visitors at the careers conference, where a relaxed and informal setting provided an ideal opportunity for people to find out more about our Stepping Stones management programme, which offers a personalised careers progression plan for employees with management potential."
The society has also recently introduced a share incentive plan (SIPS) which offers staff a tax efficient way of saving while also becoming stakeholders in the society.
