A bright future is being predicted for an 11-year-old Keighley boy, who is already excelling in several sports.
Leon Smith, pictured right, a pupil of Guard House Primary School, recently became Bradford's 400 metres junior champion when he led a talented field at the Primary School Championships at Horsfall Stadium.
Already a noted fell and cross-country runner with several awards under his belt, this was his first appearance at a track athletics event.
Leon's speed and co-ordination is also causing a stir in soccer circles. Within two months of taking up the game at school, Leon was picked to play for Keighley Under-11s against Glasgow and is to begin regular training with the junior squad this summer.
Leon, who moves to Oakbank School in September, is also a talented rugby league player, representing both his school and Keighley Town junior squad, where he is a major points scorer.
Leon's potential is such that a Keighley Cougars scholarship has been predicted for him by the club's development officer Jason Ramshaw.
The youngster, who plans to make full use of his sporting status, also fits boxing lessons into his heavy sporting schedule.
"He is a natural athlete, who could go a long way in the future," said Tim Leigh, who is involved in training local juniors at both running and football.
The head of Leon's school, Sandra Firm, added: "We are so proud of all his many achievements. We have almost lost count of all his awards and certificates.
"We hope that his great commitment to sport continues as he gets older and we look forward to his superstar status!"
