Dougie Lampkin will have to take an enforced 'rest' from the world trials series before he clinches his sixth world crown and edges nearer to legendary Spaniard Jordi Tarres' seemingly impregnable seven-up.
At a cold and miserable Clermont Ferrand, Silsden's Lampkin, pictured above, won and lost but extended his lead over Takahisa Fujinami and now needs just eight more points to retain his title.
The big letdown for all involved was that the entire course was man-made, and rocks of enormous sizes - and the mud that dragged on to the sections - made everything impossible.
"It's not been an enjoyable day," admitted Dougie after the opening session. "For sure, I won but there is hardly a great skill and carrying your bike through a section."
Lampkin finished second on day two and goes to Japan in September with a 32- point lead in the championship.
Ben Hemingway missed the points cut but Sam Connor managed a 13th on Sunday scoring three points.
Teenager Sam Ludgate won the national Allan Jefferies Trophy trial in Upper Wharfedale from Martin Crosswaite and Shaun Morris.
Best of the clubmen was former British sidecar trials champion Scott Rowland, from Graham Abbey and Mike Edwards. Over 130 riders took part in a one lap event that covered almost 40 miles taking in Halton Gill, Park Rash, Hubberholme and Kilnsey.
Ilkley racing driver James Hanson had a bleak, pointless, weekend in Germany on Sunday where a first corner incident with Alfa driver Tom Ferrier ended the Hanson hopes.
Yeadon & Guiseley MC ran another beginners and newcomers trial on Saturday at Addingham Moorside where 20 competitors were advised on the art of trials riding. Top newcomer was Tim Scott on his Yamaha machine while little Matthew Abbey took the small wheel class on his TY 80 Yamaha.
