Sporting interests clash in Bradford on August 20 when Yorkshire play Lancashire in the Roses match at Park Avenue and Bradford City open their Third Division campaign against Cambridge United at Valley Parade. The conflict might have been avoided if someone at Valley Parade had spotted that the Roses match coincided with the start of the soccer season or if someone on the cricket side had informed the football club.

During the past week there was a decrease in the number of people on short-time working in Bradford and the West Riding. In Bradford the number on short time - 6,000 - in all sections of industry was nearly 1,000 less than the previous week, it was said by a Ministry of Labour official.
