A brave last-wicket stand by Spen Victoria's Ian Wood and Kez Ahmed sent Pudsey Congs back to the top of the table.

Congs cut short a three-game losing streak with a comprehensive win over East Bierley while neighbours St Lawrence could manage just a winning draw against a defiant Spen side.

Jim Smith and skipper Iain Priestley hit half-centuries as St Lawrence, leading the league on Saturday morning by a single point, hit 224 for eight at home to a Spen side fighting to stay in the top flight.

Wickets began tumbling for the visitors, who sit just above the three relegation places, as Gary Severn and Cameron Bailey (five wickets) began to take the Spen side apart.

But Scott Cunningham (48) and Chris Elstub (40) stemmed the tide, leaving Wood and Ahmed to bat out the final overs and grab the vital point.

With St Lawrence just picking up four, Congs could return to the top of the pile if they could overcome East Bierley.

And this they duly did, recording their second win against keen rivals Bierley in six days.

Mark Bray took advantage of a rare opportunity to open the bowling, taking a devastating eight wickets as East Bierley were held back to just 100.

The runs were knocked off in only 15 overs as Congs flexed their muscles and shot back to the top by a single point.

Meanwhile, third-placed Undercliffe maintained their pursuit of the Pudsey runaways with a seven-wicket win over Baildon.

Faisal Afridi bagged six wickets as Baildon were reduced to 114 and the home side knocked off the required runs with 25 overs still to come.

At the other end of the table Cleckheaton pulled off a remarkable win as they fight to avoid relegation. Richard Pyrah took six wickets and hit an unbeaten 63 as Woodlands were defeated by ten wickets.

The home side were dismissed for 131 before Pyrah combined with Mark Gill (69no) to help Cleck romp home to a tremendous and important victory.

And Yeadon did themselves no harm in the race for survival with a spirited victory over rivals Lightcliffe.

Despite an iffy start in overcast conditions, Neil Elvidge (103) and Damon Gormley (81) combined for a 189-run fourth wicket stand to save the innings.

The other eight batsmen managed just 21 runs between them as the home side chalked up 231 all-out.

But tight bowling ensured Lightcliffe got nowhere near the total, finishing 119 runs shy and falling seven points behind at the foot of the table.

In the day's other game Farsley beat Hanging Heaton by seven wickets in a low-scoring encounter.
