Battering ram striker Robert Taylor will get a second chance to impress City in a private game at Huddersfield tomorrow.

The experienced hitman played just under an hour in last night's

2-1 defeat at Chesterfield but struggled to make an impact.

Nicky Law will use him again when City face the Terriers in a closed-doors match ahead of Saturday's official friendly at Hartlepool.

Law said: "Robert is short of match practice and it was difficult for him to come in and play straight away.

"He doesn't really know anybody here and with it being our first proper game we hadn't really worked on any great shape and just played off the cuff. He's just had a fortnight at Barnsley and I'm not quite sure of the situation there. But I've been aware of him for a while and thought we'd get him in and have a look for a week.

"We know we're short in that department and that's one of the first positions we need to strengthen."

Paul Evans, who twinged a thigh in training on Monday, Michael Standing and Gary Walsh will play tomorrow after missing out yesterday.

Standing felt his hamstring tighten while warming up at half-time but Law dismissed fears that it could be a recurrence of the injury he suffered against Newcastle reserves the week he joined the club in March. "It's nothing serious, it's probably just a little problem in his mind," Law said.

"The physio thinks it is nothing and I'll trust his decision but it wasn't worth risking Michael just for the sake of ten or 15 minutes in a high-tempo game like this.

"I've slotted in the Huddersfield game because with the amount of players we've got, they can't all get the quality time that they need.

"We showed we were rusty at Chesterfield but it was a worthwhile exercise.

"Peter Atherton came on and did well, Dave Wetherall and Andy Myers got better as the game wore on, Lewis Emanuel looked far more accomplished at left back and Gary Locke was excellent when he came on.

"There were things I was concerned with like the poor nature of their two goals. But when you have ten weeks off and have a lot of other things on your mind, you forget the basics."
