Bradford-trained Mark Shipman will be diving for gold today.
The 29-year-old will be hoping to secure the host nation's first medal in the Commonwealth Games even before the opening ceremony begins.
And the Olympian is confident ahead of the 1m Springboard event which kicks off the Games with a splash.
Bradford coach and manager of Team England's diving team Julian Bellan is confident that Shipman could be in with a good shout for a medal.
"He came fifth in a world-class field recently with only one Commonwealth competitor finishing higher," said Bellan.
"It will come down to how everyone competes on the day, but he is confident going into today's event and tomorrow's 3m Springboard."
