While Leeds United chairman Peter Ridsdale was signing away his most expensive player his namesake scooped the top prizes in a flower contest.
The rain held off and the crowds came out to see the 85th Arthington Show on Sunday.
Peter Ridsdale, of Kirkby Overblow, took first place in the majority of horticultural events he entered from having the best roses to the finest plate of raspberries.
While his Leeds United namesake was selling the club's own crown jewels in the form of Rio Ferdinand, Mr Ridsdale was awarded the Silver Challenge Trophy for gaining the most points in one of the sections.
The show was packed with bouncy castles and games for the children to displays by birds of prey and ancient tractors.
The Guiseley Brass Band performed as the horses were paraded around the field for the different competitions.
The standard of entries in the events was very high with many competitors taking home a trophy or a prize.
The atmosphere was jubilant with competitors and onlookers alike having a very enjoyable time.
One family had travelled to the show from Middlesborough and vowed to return next year.
Richard Lewis said: "I brought my wife and children here for the day. It is the first year we have come and I have had a wonderful time.
"The children have enjoyed all the games and we have enjoyed watching the various events. We will certainly be coming back next year."
The Park Rose Bird of Prey Centre brought five birds of prey to show intrigued onlookers, including a Turkey Vulture and a Peregrine Falcon.
Mark Doyle from the sanctuary said: "I like the Peregrine the best. All the birds can be monsters, their instinct is to kill.
"We get a lot of injured birds brought to the sanctuary. It is good to show the birds at these shows to make people more aware."
The show made a welcome return this year after it was cancelled due to the foot and mouth outbreak last year.
Edna Philips, from Pudsey, said: "My husband and I like coming to the show. It was a shame it was cancelled last year.
"It is always a good event, there is lots to see and the produce tent is always interesting."
Secretary of the Arthington Show, Sheila Dickinson, has hailed the event a great success.
"It was a great show. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the weather was nice all day.
"We all had a nice time and it great to have the show back on again," she said.
"I would like to thank the sponsors and everyone who helped to make the show the success that it was."
