Shipley's popular Hirst Wood is "going back to nature" and rapidly becoming a jungle according to Coun. Alan Bagshaw. He says it has deteriorated markedly, and, unless some careful surgery is done before long, butchery will be the only answer to the problems of large clumps of tangled trees.

A total of 8,841 examinations of schoolchildren in the Upper Agbrigg area revelaed that 210 of them were in a verminous condition, according to a report issued by Dr. Eric Ward, Medical Officer of Health for the Division. Warning letters were sent to the parents of 110 infested children, cleanliness notices were served in nine cases, and six of the children were excluded from school.
