A disabled man from Keighley who feared he would become confined to his own home is celebrating after Bradford council agreed to install him a ramp.
Richard Mason, 60, from West Lane was originally told that it would be at least a year before he could have a ramp made for his home.
But following a visit from council surveyors he has been told that construction of a ramp outside his home will begin on Monday.
Mr Mason, who has fibrosis of the lungs and must carry oxygen tanks with him at all times, recently bought a motability scooter after having a slight accident in his wheel chair.
But he feared that his new means of transport would lie idle for a year without the ramp necessary to get it outside.
Mr Mason says that he needs the special vehicle as he can only walk a matter of yards before losing his breath.
He received support from Keighley South councillor Steve Thomas and from his consultant, who sent his medical details to social services.
