Keighley and Craven AC's Will Smith proved sharper over Sharphaw as fell running returned to the popular Stirton, near Skipton, venue after last year's foot and mouth-enforced break.
He had no Steve Hawkins to trouble him this year and went one better than his year 2000 runner-up spot to the Bingley Harrier. Smith, manager at Oakbank sports centre in Keighley, had Pudsey and Bramley's Jason Helmsley for company for the first climb of Sharphaw.
But the K&C star commanded a clear lead after the loop of the wood and the second climb to the Sharphaw summit from the Gargrave direction.
He won in 37-35, two minutes shy of Hawkins' record, but clear of second-placed Helmsley (38-12) and former Skipton AC runner Steve Sayer (39-10).
First lady was K&C's veteran international Jo Prowse, 25th overall in 46-35. Clubmate Helen Glover pushed her all the way, finishing just behind.
Skipton AC's Stuart Hunn cruised to success in the U17s race which turned at Sharphaw's summit.
Hunn followed up his U14s win of two years ago by forcing the pace and was always well clear of clubmates Daniel Walmsley and Matthew Hurst.
