Bingley Harrier Ian Holmes turned the clock back five years by repeating his 1997 win in the Oldfield Gala fell race on Sunday.

Runners faced a new course this year with the race taking an out-and-back route from the Grouse Inn in Harehills Lane via Keighley reservoir.

To add atmosphere to the finish - through a new private entry into the gala field - runners were welcomed back to the sound of bagpipes provided by the Leeds Pipe Band.

International fell runner Holmes completed the course in 23min 37sec, finishing more than half a minute clear of runner-up John Ingram, from Saddleworth.

First lady runner home was another international, Claire Tomkinson, of Charwood AC in a time of 29-15. She was in the area visiting relatives.

Bingley's Ian Ferguson took the prize for first male veteran to finish in 27-18, while first women's veteran was Sylvia Watson of Valley Striders in 35-17.
