The final event of the third International Festival of Cycling at Harrogate, the Carlton Weinmann Criterium, saw Keighley professional Sid Barras (Bantel) score a hat- trick of wins in the week bringing his tally for the season to 23 victories. On the testing one thousands yards long circuit near the town centre, a group of four riders eventually dominated the race, sharing the primes between them - but with Barras finally dominating the race.

In the first seven months of this year, Bradford has built more Corporation houses than in the comparable period of any other post-war year.
The total is 489. A total of 326 were built in the first seven months last year.
The comparable figures were 314 the previous year and 218 in the same period in 1949.
