They may look small and cute at the moment, but when fully grown, Ponderosa's latest visitors will be five feet long.
The rare breeds farm in Heckmondwike is rearing the 15 corn snakes which hatched a week ago. Reptile keeper Axel Barlow, pictured with an inmate, said another 15 are waiting to hatch in an incubator. "At the moment they are the width of a pencil and only eight to ten inches long," he said.
"But when fully grown, they will be four or five feet long and can live to be 15 or 20 years old. They grow quite quickly and will be 18 inches long after a year. They will reach the three to four foot mark after three years, when they become adults." The reptiles will be sold at £35 each. Mr Barlow said they make perfect pets.
"They are a great snake to keep in captivity and like being handled," he said. The snakes are native to north America and live in cornfields where there is an abundance of rodents for them to live on.
