The day that every Yorkshireman can call his own was being celebrated today by an organisation which is determined to preserve the identity of its traditional East, West and North Ridings - the Yorkshire Ridings Society. Information Officer of the society, Mr. Howard Walker of Hedon, Hull, said: "It is a bit early to say yet just how well things have gone".

A Bradfordian who "plunged" on a British Railways holiday runabout ticket last week has no regrets. Blessed with good weather he and family visited Scarborough (twice), Bridlington,Filey, Selby, York and Keighley during their seven-day period of unlimited travel. This cost 35s. each for himself and his wife, and 17s. 6d. for their son. He estimates that each of them had about £5 worth of travel computed at adult day-trip rates.
