The Lord Mayor donned a fresh white rose and tucked into mouth-watering home-baked cakes at a cream tea to celebrate Yorkshire Day yesterday.

Councillor Richard Wightman and his wife Elizabeth, the Lady Mayoress, joined 50 guests at the event in Allerton which raised around £200 for his appeal.

Organiser Nora Whitham, pictured above with the Lord Mayor, threw open the doors of her home and made a variety of fairy cakes and scones and served tea and coffee.

She said true Tyke spirit had prevailed to ensure it was a great success despite the wet weather outside.

The Lord Mayor's Appeal is raising money for children's cancer charity Candlelighters, which is based at St James's Hospital in Leeds.
