Cricketer David Maxwell collapsed while playing in the Craven League and died on the way to hospital.
David, 39, played for Foulridge 2nd XI and was well known to many players in the Keighley area.
The club's 1st XI was playing at Cullingworth when news of the tragedy filtered through and although the home club offered to call the game off Foulridge decided to fulfil the fixture.
Mr Maxwell was at the crease, staging a recovery for his team who were 50-7 against Pendle Forest III when he went in to bat.
He collapsed and despite the efforts of two of the Foulridge ladies and a player from Pendle Forest, he did not recover consciousness. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead when they arrived at the hospital.
