Three men accused of manslaughter following the death of a Wyke lorry driver will stand trial in March next year.

Ian Dale, 57, suffered chest and leg injuries after being run over by his own lorry in February last year.

He had been travelling along the A58 Godley Lane, near Shibden Park, Halifax, when he was flung through the windscreen of his vehicle at a pedestrian crossing.

Yesterday George Bottomley, 47, of Martin Green Lane, Greetland, Stacey Oakes, 29, of Blackwood Grove, Pellon, and Stephen Akroyd, 46, of Ripponden Old Road, Sowerby Bridge, entered not guilty pleas to a charge of unlawfully killing Mr Dale by gross negligence.

The case is expected to centre on the servicing of the lorry involved in the fatal incident.

The trial is due to last up to four weeks and Judge Alistair McCallum was told that it could not be heard until next year.

After the trial date was fixed for March 10 - two years after Mr Dale's death - all three defendants were granted bail.
