Woodlands Seconds stayed on course for their second League and Cup double in a row after a comfortable 72-run win over Bradford & Bingley in yesterday's Priestley Shield final in damp and at times murky conditions at Undercliffe.

Last year - their first in the Bradford League - they won the Shield and Division Two championship.

Now, skipper David Buchanan, has set his sights on winning the First Division title to go with another Priestley Shield success.

Buchanan, who won the man-of-the-match award after his sheet anchor role in the Woodlands innings said: "We are delighted to win the Shield again and we will be disappointed if we don't win the League title considering we are 20 points in front with five games to play.

"We were looking for between 180 and 200 runs after being asked to bat first, but considering the fact that the ball was swinging in the air and was very slow off the pitch I was quite happy with what we got."

Buchanan, who has played for Woodlands for 17 years in three different leagues - Bradford Central, Central Yorkshire and now the Bradford League, batted 42 overs for his dogged 48 - the top score in the match - and shared a valuable third wicket stand of 63 with Jason Wharf (38). Then, some late hitting lifted the total to 174 for six.

Bingley bowled well at times, but let themselves down by conceding 35 extras, including a remarkable 21 wides.

They made the worse possible start, losing their free scoring opener Sajjad Haider fornone in the first over, but Martin Dobson and Gary Topp put them back on track with a second wicket stand of 32 before they lost five wickets for 25 runs.

Topp, who is one of their leading scorers, was superbly caught in the gully by Buchanan and they also lost Robert Walker, Amar Rashid, Henry Haslam and Bilal Ijaz cheaply.
