Nicky Law will waste no time in nailing down Gus Uhlenbeek long term after tomorrow's game at Crystal Palace.

The flying Dutchman (pictured) signed a non-contract deal before the weekend to cover the opening matches against Wolves and Palace. And City boss Law intends to make sure he follows on from Andy Gray and Paul Evans by committing his future to the club.

Law, so proud of yesterday's stalemate with Wolves at Valley Parade, said: "Because of the lateness of everything, Gus signed on a week-to-week contract with a provision in there to sit down with him on Wednesday and sort out a deal.

"Like Gray and Evans he has had other offers but has stayed here to earn a contract and I can't speak highly enough of any of them."

A live TV audience were given ample proof that the Bantams are alive and kicking as they emerge from a summer of turmoil. With new chairman Gordon Gibb watching from the directors' box, City battled for a goalless draw against their big-money visitors.

Law said: "Even on Friday when the new chairman rang me at 6.30pm, the thing was still in the balance. These have been worrying times.

"But now we've cleared those hurdles and that performance epitomises the players that I've got. Everyone maybe questioned them and doubted their commitment last year but the way they've conducted themselves over the last three months has been exemplary.

"They are a great set of lads to work with and I think they may have surprised a few people.

"I thought we had a poor pre-season with the uncertainty of the situation. I don't think there are many First Division clubs that have ran a whole pre-season with just two members of staff.

"Everyone's tipped us for relegation. But there is no greater incentive when you are being written off like that to really stick it up them and that's what we have done."
