Bradford companies can learn team-building skills to boost their business while raising money for cancer research.

Team Challenge will take place on September 4 at Nell Bank Centre, Ilkley.

This fun event for local companies will raise money for the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Can... Cancer Research Appeal as well as for the educational centre.

At the event, teams of workers will carry out various exercises to improve skills like trust, team-working and communication.

Some activities will simulate crossing hazardous terrain at night or piranha infested rivers.

Bradford Can... Appeal manager Tish Burton said the day would consist of six challenges or problem solving exercises and then there would be an 'ultimate test' of all the skills learned.

Challenges will test decision making, planning, lateral thinking, co-ordination and verbal and non-verbal communication.

Teams of six will take part and there will be a prize-giving ceremony for the winners at the end of the day.

Mrs Burton said the team-building element would help benefit the companies.

"It's the Bradford Can... Appeal's way of giving something back to local businesses," she said.

Bruce Fowler, head of the Nell Bank Centre, said the facility, which is managed by Education Bradford, had previously held similar charity days which had been very successful.

He said the event was extra special as this year is Nell Bank's Silver Jubilee, having been set up in 1977.

The centre is primarily aimed at raising educational attainment among Bradford youngsters and allows them to do activities like study wildlife.

Many of the 10,000 youngsters who use the centre every year are from inner-city areas and those with disabilities and sensory impairments are also catered for.

The centre also provides team-building days for businesses. The Bradford Can... Appeal started last September and has so far raised £500,000 towards cancer research at the University of Bradford and Bradford Royal Infirmary. Once the £1 million target is reached, Cancer Research UK will plough another £5 million into research into the disease in the city.

Team Challenge will start at 9am on Wednesday September 4 and exercises will run until 3.45pm.

It costs £600 per team and lunch will be provided. The day is suitable for companies or groups of individuals.
